So where are all the new cars/tracks?

Message par Mercury »

(Not sure if this is the right place to post this. I'm still a newbie to POD and to this board.)

I've been reading and it seems that a lot of unofficial tracks have been developed. I'd like to get my hands on them, but they seem to be notoriously difficult to find.

I know QBall's page had a lot of them but it seems to be gone now - all I can see is the Google cache of it, and that doesn't allow downloads.

I've picked up every map and car that's available from UBI's ftp server, and a meager handful of other ones.

So, I guess what I'm really asking is: Is there some magic website still up that has all (or most or some) of the tracks and cars available for download?

I really want to try out the motorbikes, and the screenshots of Night look awesome.

TIA.

Well, that might help with the maps, but I've been looking all over for the motorbikes.

Finally found them, but I have to work for them.

http://web.archive.org/web/200202051434 ... nload.html

That's an archived version of QBall's page from archive.org

What surprises me is that many of the downloads still work. (archive.org generally only archives http pages; I certainly never found ZIP files there before. Maybe the POD/Internet gods decided to give me a break. :D )

Another interesting thing is that the ZIP files appear to be corrupted. However, it's possible to repair them (I have a program called PowerArchiver that does the job). After the repair, all the cars work!

But, I'm still missing Xira. :(

Hmm, I notice there are several variants of the Special track. Is there any major difference between them? I don't want to waste time with them all if it turns out there are only minor changes.

The only difference is the textures. Not difference in the 3D models.

No difference between them.Only one kind of texture which changes for each version of the track. So one is enough.:)

OK, another question:
What's the deal with Hellway? Apparently it had some bug corrected (?). I know there's an answer in the French part of this forum, but could someone explain in english?

Je comprends fracais comme une vache espagnole. :|

Alright, I'm fairly certain I have all the official tracks.

I also have:

Bender
Escape
Forgetit
Newsance
Discover
Vger
Zion
Rayway
Heaven
Colony
Slimepit
Down
Parc
Everest
natura
Enneade
Untitled
Nadir
Hive

I have but can't get working:
Arcade
Forest
Tron

Looking at http://skubidou.free.fr/Pod/Tools/PodPa ... its_ID.htm I can see I'm still missing:
Aztec 9999
Ecocoon
Twylite
Antipod
Cube

Any others I should know about?

First version of Hellway didn't worked with the GameService 2 patch, because this POD version check if a string contained in the BL4 file correspond to the file name. After that, we made a corrected version, but correcting this bug, i created another one (give bad textures on some objects), so i needed to correct it again.

The final version is avalaible on WitnessTeam http://witnessteam.free.fr/downloads/sk ... ellway.zip

Here you can find also some other tracks:
http://skubidou.free.fr/Pod/Circuits/Bl4/

Aztec 9999 is Aztec. It has simply been corrected for the ID in the circuits.bin file.

Ecocoon, Aztec9999, Antipod can be found on my site (URL given above)

Twylight is a reskin of reverse Canyon (in normal Twylight, you play mirror Canyon...) and with an horrible slippery road. I need to search for it.

Cube : We wait the release date for more than 2 years

Arcade: The original track come from a special version of the pod engine (special project for arcade computer). So it has too many faces and too many textures to be supported in the originale POD engine. You need to use the Arcade- (can be find also on my site)

Forest and Tron should work (tron only work in 3Dfx and D3DDx5 POD version, like reskins). What error do you have?

First of all, let me say that this place is amazing! I apparently have all the tracks except for Cave (don't really want it - I don't like pre-betas), Cube (which is apparently still not realeased), and Twylight.

But I have found four tracks that are giving me problems.

I did use Arcade-, with the minus sign. Still crashes with "Memory Error"
Forest and Tron should work (tron only work in 3Dfx and D3DDx5 POD version, like reskins). What error do you have?
Forest and Tron and Ecocoon (I just found out after trying it) all crash with a "Car behavior Error", whatever that is. :?

The only refernece I've found to this error is on QBall's page:

http://web.archive.org/web/200112100638 ... orest.html

but he's talking about the bl3 version of forest, and I'm using BL4.

The type of car being used has no effect. The number of tracks installed is not the problem. :?

 I hate to say it but "I told you so".

:ké boulet: I have tried many times to run Arcade- with my V5 and no luck.

:keskidi: I am wondering if anyone has actually been able to run Arcade in glide mode. I always thought that if Q-ball posted the track for glide systems then it must have worked for somebody.

I am going to start POnDering, who could that person be? :roswell:

Umm, as far as I can remember, I played Arcade on my old Pod-PC (with an ancient Daimond Monster 3D card, lol).

Maybe I'm wrong about WHERE I played it, but I know I definitely DID play it at some point.
